As one of the most important gaming releases of all-time, Mojang’s Minecraft: Story Mode changed the gaming world entirely. It created a whole new wave of creative, do-it-yourself gaming that has allowed for some pretty incredible releases over the years.

Actually TellTale Games is back kinda its not the same owners and they don't have the rights to many games that the old studio had (Minecraft story mode being one of those that they no longer have the rights to) here is a link to their twitter with the last progress update being from December of last year they also tweeted something 3 days ago.
However, the episodic point-and-click release by Telltale Games, Minecraft: Story Mode, has more in common with classics like Monkey Island and even modern releases like The Walking Dead games compared to the build-a-thon that is classic Minceraft.
An interesting take on the genre
Released by Telltale Games prior to their closure in 2018, Minecraft: Story Mode was built in the same episodic format as most Telltale products. It followed the story of a character made by the player, called Jesse, who travelled with friends to follow the well-trodden path of becoming heroes to save the world from the Wither Storm. The rest of the story tends to revolve around adventure, finding treasure, and meeting new enemies – and friends – as the story progresses.
It plays like you might expect; moving from area to area, combing the scene for clues and items, and then dealing with action scenes and interactions with the many other characters you might meet. First released in 2015, it was a refreshing use of the Minecraft IP to offer something that was more than a DIY builder.
A tell perhaps not worth telling after a while
Like most story-based games from Telltale Games, the idea starts off fresh and exciting. Towards the end of the first season of releases and absolutely into the second season, though, things began to tale off. Users can quickly spot the plotline unfolding in front of them, and there was nothing like the same creativity or invention in the writing, set pieces, or events that would take place.
Most of the writing becomes paint-by-numbers ‘humour’ and loses much of the charm and freshness that made the first few episodes so good. Indeed, ratings for the first season often jumped from impressive to mediocre, and the second season was also seen as a poor use of the IP. Though the ideas were often quite fresh, and the last couple episodes were actually some of the most well-loved, it lacked the longevity that came with some of the other Telltale games, such as Tales From The Borderlands.
Overall, though, it’s a fun enough jaunt through a world built in the image of Minecraft.
Much like other spin-offs like Minecraft Dungeon, though, it was perhaps a little too light when it came to depth, replayability, and general fun for the gamer. With the stories quickly fading into boring subplots, there wasn’t the ability for Minecraft Story Mode to stand on its own two feet after a while.
Pros:
- A fun concept, building on the Minecraft IP
- Smart use of worldbuilding with kid-friendly stories
Cons:
Minecraft Story Mode Season 3 Xbox One
- Lacks the depth an detail of other episodic titles
- Tends to run out of ideas and freshness pretty quickly
- Was never truly finished to the level expected
Minecraft: Story Mode won the hearts of many players when it released in 2015, as did its sequel, Season 2, in 2017. But it's been nearly two years now without any news of a third season. Will Minecraft Story Mode: Season 3 ever happen? Will we see these beloved characters in a story-driven Minecraft game ever again?
The odds are not very good.
Minecraft: Story Mode was developed by the now-defunct Telltale Games, best known for bringing The Walking Dead to consoles. Telltale laid off much of its staff on Sept. 21, 2018, in a move that not only left many talented developers without jobs, but also left The Walking Dead: The Final Season in limbo. Fortunately, some happy news came along for The Walking Dead's farewell. Skybound Entertainment reclaimed the license (as the studio is owned by The Walking Dead's creator) and brought some ex-Telltale staff on to finish the game.
But things didn't end so blissfully for other Telltale properties, including Minecraft: Story Mode.
A port of Story Mode was being planned for Netflix, but that was canceled. Then Telltale titles started disappearing from digital storefronts. Finally, this past June, Minecraft: Story Mode was pulled down, too. There is now no way to buy Story Mode or Story Mode: Season 2 digitally. And because Telltale Games is now dead and gone, the likelihood of the property making a reappearance — much less getting a third season — is slim to none.

Could there be another story-focused Minecraft title someday? That's certainly a possibility, though it would be on Microsoft to provide that experience going forward. The truth is (with the exception of Square Enix's Life is Strange series) there aren't other developers making Telltale-like games. And given the trouble Telltale found itself in toward the end, it probably wouldn't be wise for a studio to saddle itself with a bunch of licenses in a similar manner, either.

So no, you're probably not going to get Minecraft Story Mode: Season 3. But who knows: maybe the folks at Microsoft might surprise us someday with something similar.
